WoC vs HE 2500
Baller and I played Friday afternoon at GW in Grapevine. All the GW folks were talking about how OP my list was, and I just told them that i was prolly gonna lose - so i did!
i took
lvl 4 archmage with death and infernal puppet
festus
BSB on palanquin w/ 2+rerollable
19 nurgle warrriors with halberds and standard of discipline
12 khorne warriors w/ AHW
40 marauders with GW
17 marauders with flails
2 x 5 marauder horsemen
5 chaos knights
2 hellcannons
baller had
level 4 shadow
level 2 death with 2 hexes
bsb
40 spears ?
2 x 10 archers
10 PG with sorcery banner
21 SMs
14 SMs
2 x 5 reavers
5 DPs
2 brave eagles
I really dont remember the game very well, but here are some of the things i do remember.
1. swordmasters wreck warriors in combat every time. his SM block killed my whole khorne block before i even got to swing.
2. doom and darkness plus hellcannons is really really dirty. baller was taking ( and passing grumble grumble) ld 5 panic checks on his general's unit on turn 1.
3. baller is a dang good player and his units are hard to finish. at the end of the game he had 2 of 40 spears left, 4 of 21 SM, 5 of 14 SM, 5 of 10 PG, 2 archers units, and his level 2 deathmage. thats only a handful of elves and it was worth 1500 VPs. my biggest problem with WoC is that all the fighting is typically taking place on my side of the board and there is plenty of room for enemy units to escape combat without running off of the board.
4. infernal puppet is really dirty. it lets me adjust all miscast rolls by D3. there were like 10 miscasts in this game and getting to be mean with all of them was really fun. I gave his level 4 with only 1 wound left a STR 10 hit in turn 3, but freakin rolled a 1. still pretty funny tho. in my turn 6 i misfired a hellcannon and rolled the result that causes a miscast. i rolled snake eyes on miscast and then only 2 to adjust so i killed off my BSB and all my leftover nurgle warriors, but my lv 4 survived somehow.
5. a unit of 40 marauders 5 wide is hard to move around without proper movement tray.
all in all this was a pretty hectic game with lots of blood, miscasts, and well-placed redirecting units, where baller got the matchups he wanted in combat and came out on top because of it.

Baller is a good player. He busts out with a new tactic or three every time I play him. Keeps me on my toes. I'll have to watch out for that suicide lvl 2 next time.
